On my way to find the specific subject which I am going to study

I posted one blog to talk about my confusion and get some feedback. Based on Jhave’s suggestions, I tried to redefine “nature” and “technology” in terms of “cooking”. Although I almost find nothing that helps me to define the conceptions again, I learned some interesting.

First, I searched the word “nature”. The definition of Wikipedia said that it is the natural, physical, or material world or universe in the broadest sense. And it derives from the Latin word “natura” which means essential qualities and innate disposition.

Second, I focused on the comparison between the Chinese and western cooking and food. When there is no sufficient food, having dinners is only for living wherever. However, when starving people become less and less, different areas begin to have their own habits. For the western people, they show more science and reason so they care more about nutrition. And to Chinese, they have more aesthetic requirements and sensibilities so they emphasis taste. Obviously, the reasons why they are different range from culture, philosophy, economy and so on.

Third, I learned that some universities have the major called Cooking Science. This course will introduce students to some of the science behind food preparation, cooking methods, and generally, the enjoyment of food. The ultimate goal is to inspire students to apply scientific principles in your everyday cooking, including the principles of manipulating the human perception of food.

Since I have to narrow down the scale of the topic, I do not show many details about the above findings. Instead, I only make a general record of them here. Before we reach the ultimate goal, there is always a long process. What I need to do is just keeping trying.
