Video (page 3): Neural Networks

This week (March 13, 2016) AlphaGO DeepMind software beat the Go board game champion Lee Sodal 3-1. The principles underlying the neural network used by Google originated with Geoffrey Hinton who taught a course on machine learning on Coursera in 2012. If you are curious about machine learning terminology (weights, back propagation, training for feature detectors, unsupervised learning). At around the 2:45 point in the intro video Hinton makes his number-recogntion net run backwards and fantasize the number ‘2’, generating a ‘2’. This capacity of neural networks not just to learn but to output based on learned features is what makes their behavior novel and new in the programming world. Anticipate a future where machine learning progressively erodes the task space of humans.
